People often think of stretching when they think of yoga.
Yoga is more accurately a state of being not necessarily a series of poses.
That being said, the physical postures that people often associate with yoga do involve a combination of strength, flexibility and balance.
There are parts of the class that are serene and relaxing and other parts where you will feel your muscles working and may even break a sweat!
Each class ends with a 5-7 minute guided relaxation in the posture known as Savasana.

Incorporating this weekly hour with me into your life can help you keep your stress levels in check, ease tension from tired muscles and maintain mobility and balance so you can feel better in your body.
-Lucianna a.k.a. The Yogi Medic

I have been teaching yoga in the Central Valley since 1998. I am currently a full time Paramedic in Kings County and single mom to my 18 year old son. Prior to being a Paramedic, I owned Sojourn Yoga from 2008-2021. Covid was a big turning point for many small businesses and Sojourn was one of them. As a single mom, time ran out on using resources to keep the studio open and I made the decision to close and become a Paramedic.
When Covid first happened I was in a documentary about the Pandemic and described that I believed that events such as Covid, were a way of redirecting people to a new path. I had no idea how personal that statement was and how much of a redirect I was about to experience. As much as I loved the experience of having my studio, I can finally say I am grateful the journey led me here. I LOVE being a Paramedic. It is an amazing job and one I was built for. Having the opportunity to teach yoga at Pilates Queen has turned out to be the missing piece. It was a very challenging and heart breaking time as my life was completely dismantled and had to be rebuilt from scratch in my mid 40's! I can finally say that what I have rebuilt is something I would never have imagined and is I life I love.

Barbara Dowd-Peters
11/25/49-03/10/26
This year we unexpectedly lost this beautiful magical woman that I lovingly referred to as Baba. Without her I don't think I ever would have been able to heal enough to accomplish the things I have in this lifetime. I met Barbara when I was 21 and she was 48. We had an unshakeable bond and I was blessed to witness her amazing work, her love, her magic and her grace over the years. She guided, loved, supported and nurtured me through our 30 year friendship and to say she is missed is the understatement of the century. I will always be grateful for this beautiful human and carry on her legacy by offering kindness, compassion, love and healing spaces wherever I go.
Barbara offered intuitive readings/spiritual coaching and reflexology through Sojourn and through her own office for many years. She created a course called Purposeful life that was held at Sojourn that taught her formula for healing and living purposefully.
To this day, I still follow the principles of her class and always will. She was among the rare gems of the world that are authentic healers.
When I tell people that she saved my life it is not an exaggeration. She was a gift to this world and truly made a difference.
